I wake up out of a deliciously deep slumber to Thea shaking me awake. “Hmm?” I murmur, blinking.

She looms above me, looking very awake. As I struggle to sit up, I notice she’s already dressed in a smart pencil skirt and V-neck top, hair in another neat twist at the nape of her neck. I didn’t even feel her get out of bed this morning.

“Time to get up,” she says gently, handing me a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee. “Chop-chop, Agent Callaghan.”

I accept the cup, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. “Are you always this mean first thing in the morning?”

She cracks a smile, then leans down and kisses me softly. “There. Is that better?”

“Much.” I grin and stand.

“I’ve already pressed your suit and shirt,” she says briskly. “We need to get a move on. The program’s almost finished running.”

Fuck. I was so caught up in the bliss of a very pleasurable night and profoundly deep sleep that I completely forgot about that. I knock the side of my head with the heel of my palm as I pad toward the bathroom.

“Roger that, ma’am. Be ready in fifteen.”

I manage to shower and shave in ten minutes, dive into my suit, then we’re out the door. Thea is efficient in the morning, and I’m both admiring and vaguely jealous.

We make it to the White House in decent time, considering DC traffic is always a nightmare, and walk inside, flashing our credentials to security.

Two guards stand on duty outside the office with the computer she was in yesterday.

“Morning, fellas,” I say.

“Good morning, sir,” one of them replies.

“No one in or out?”

“Not a soul, sir,” the guard says crisply. “This door was never unmanned for one moment overnight.”

“Good man.” I nod, unlocking the door. “Please alert an aide that we need POTUS immediately.”

Thea hurries inside and immediately goes over to the computer, dropping into the seat and clacking away.

A staffer comes in, bringing a pot of coffee, cups, and a pitcher of orange juice. I nod and set to work pouring Thea a cup of coffee. I remember from the past that she always took cream and sugar, so I make it that way.

She seems surprised when I set it down in front of her. “Thank you. How’d you know?”

I lean down to sneak one quick kiss. “I pay very close attention to you.”

Her cheeks flush as she picks up her mug and clears her throat. “Yes…you certainly do.”

I smile and straighten just as the president and an aide walk into the room. Thea stands quickly.

“Good morning,” President Willoughby says. “What have you got for me?”

“Good morning, Mr. President,” Thea says. “We have some concerning developments for you. It appears that the White House server wasn’t hacked, but rather, the opposite.”

“What’s the opposite?” the president asks with a frown.

“It appears there was a data leak—from the inside,” Thea says. “In other words, someone internally is—is stealing information.”

To his credit, the president keeps his cool. “And who is that?”

“That’s what I’m working on right now.
